Italy's Thomas Ceccon secured an Olympic gold medal alongside his world record and world championship in the men's 100m backstroke. Xu Jiayu from the People's Republic of China took the silver, while Team USA's Ryan Murphy earned the bronze.
The race was fiercely contested from the start, with Ceccon, Xu, and Murphy each leading at different moments in the final 50 meters. In the end, Ceccon touched the wall first, securing his second medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Earlier this week, he also claimed bronze as part of Italy's 4x100m freestyle relay team.
Ceccon dominated the race, finishing in an impressive 52 seconds flat. Close behind him, Xu clocked in at 52.32 seconds, while Murphy followed closely at 52.39 seconds. Remarkably, the entire field managed to complete the race in under 53 seconds, showcasing the high level of competition and the impressive performances of all the athletes.
