Jenna Ortega Gets a Spooky Surprise from Michael Keaton on 'Beetlejuice' Set

On the set of the much awaited "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" sequel, Jenna Ortega had an unforgettable moment when, dressed in full costume, co-star Michael Keaton gave her a serious scare. The young actress revealed the spine-tingling experience with host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, August 21, during her most recent visit to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

Fallon questioned Ortega about her encounters with him because she was interested in the atmosphere on set during Keaton's Beetlejuice appearance. Ortega, 21, related a shocking incident that happened during a cosmetics and hair trial. "I felt a tap on my shoulder, turned around, and it was Michael fully transformed into Beetlejuice—molds peeling off his face and all," she continued. Keaton's nonchalant introduction, which took her by surprise at first, gave their first meeting an otherworldly quality.

Laughing, Ortega said she had to introduce herself again to Keaton when she subsequently saw him acting strangely since she had not been able to identify him without the Beetlejuice makeup. Fallon made a joke, "You met Beetlejuice, not Michael Keaton," emphasizing how his outfit changed him.

The 'Wednesday' actress talked on how working with renowned performers like Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, who play the same parts in the original movie, excites her and even a little intimidates her. Astrid Deetz, Ortega's adolescent daughter, describes the event as both exhilarating and intimidating. "Lydia is the coolest character on the planet, and stepping into this world, I was terrified," she admitted.

During a recent visit in New York City, Ortega embraced Lydia's renowned style, further paying respect to the original. She was seen wearing a custom Thom Browne outfit that brought back memories of Lydia's appearance in the film's iconic last scene. The outfit had a plaid skirt, two-tone Mary Janes, and a navy sweater with the school's insignia.

'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' is expected to debut at the Venice Film Festival on August 28 and then open in theaters across the country on September 6. The anticipation for this film is growing.
